Promote the launch of British Airways’ A380 route from London to Hong Kong.
What we did
With the launch of British Airway’s new route looming, it was once again time to build some buzz and bring it to life on film. Working in partnership with British Airways and multi-platinum selling artist Leona Lewis, we set ourselves the challenge of pulling off a world’s first - To film a live concert from the wing of an aircraft - And not just any aircraft - The A380, the biggest aircraft in British Airways’ fleet.
At 238 feet and 6 inches long, the A380 is HUGE. For a machine of such enormous scale, you need a building big enough to house one - Hong Kong International Airport’s hangar provided the perfect backdrop, allowing the monumental aircraft and the British Airways livery to take centre stage with unique, panoramic views out to the airfield.
A custom built stage, flush with the A380’s 261-foot twin-engine wing placed Lewis ethereally alongside the super-jumbo as if on the wing itself - All whilst the audience gazed up in ore from below.
Leona’s set included her number 1 selling track “Bleeding Love” and “Come Alive” from Glassheart.
“4 cameras recorded the exclusive concert live in 4K using whopping 400mm lenses to get as close and intimate to the stage as possible, whilst a wide angle captured the mammoth scale of the surroundings”.
Three cameras were positioned on raised platforms, built to the same height of the stage, whilst a steadicam was used to glide behind the audience, with attractive lense flares adding an extra layer of gloss. Additional crew and kit were hired locally in Hong Kong.
Not stopping there, the exclusive British Airways event added further ‘wow factor’ with a fashion show by award-winning designer Alice Temperley and a food by the Langham.
We returned safely and comfortably to the UK on the first ever flight, taking with us a commemorative luggage tag and over 1TB of footage.
