Capture the buzz and excitement around Kim Kardashian’s launch of QuickTrim in the UK.
What we did
On the best of days, London’s Westfield shopping centre can be a crowded experience. Now add the rumour that Kim Kardashian would be paying a visit.
As we arrived at Westfield, a sea of expectant super fans had already begun to gather around a purpose-built stage in the centre of the mall. We used the time before the launch to film VoxPop interviews with some very excited fans - Many of whom were close to tears, even at the thought of meeting their idol.
“When I see her I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’ll probably cry”
With that in mind, we suspected that the sound of screaming fans would have sent the audio meter in to a frenzy, so we wisely set the levels at their lowest in anticipation. The reaction from the crowd and what happened next was our first, real experience of super-stardom. A crew of 3 filmed the action, shooting handheld on the 5DMKII. Sliders were used to capture X-Factor / Towie-style intro’s.
Meanwhile, at the St Pancras Hotel in London’s Kings Cross, a queue had already started to form and word had already got out to the press, who were waiting patiently. Once again, we took the opportunity to meet and film VoxPop interviews with super fans, many of whom had been waiting all day.
“I’m shaking. I’ve been shaking since I got up”
Finally, the launch party was prepped, glasses were chilled and the lighting was dimmed in anticipation. As Kim emerged from her black, chauffeur-driven car, the camera flashes that greeted her were most likely visible from space. Fire jugglers blew orbs of flames as the US star posed with fans and made her way up the purple carpet towards the entrance. Inside, the hysteria continued as Kim, surrounded by an impressive entourage, proceeded to greet those lucky enough to have secured a VIP invitation. As the evening drew to the close, we backed up our footage, took a sip of champagne and toasted the celebrity lifestyle - One perhaps that’s equally as exhausting as a career in production!
